Philip R. Delio, M.D.

Dr. Delio joined Neurology Associates in 2001. He completed his undergraduate studies at Stanford University. A graduate of the Georgetown School of Medicine, he completed his neurology residency at Stanford, where he received additional specialty training in Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease. He is currently Medical Director of the Cottage Hospital Comprehensive Program, is on the Board of Directors for the Cottage Rehabilitation Hospital, and is Co-Chairman of the Medical Advisory Panel for Cottage Hospital.

He is Board Certified in Neurology and has broad interests in general neurology as well as stroke. He takes an active role in teaching residents at Cottage Hospital. Dr. Delio is married and has two daughters. In his spare time, he enjoys personal fitness, tennis and mountain biking.

Michael Gibbs, M.D.

Dr. Gibbs joined Neurology Associates after completing his fellowship training at UCLA Medical Center. He is Board Certified in Neurology and enjoys seeing patients with both common and rare neurologic conditions of all types. He spent two additional years learning to treat complex seizure disorders and is adept at evaluating patients for epilepsy surgery.

He completed a Master’s degree in Public Health at Northwestern University in Chicago, where he became interested in understanding factors that determine quality-of- life of patients with neurologic diseases and how to measure it for research studies.

Dr. Gibbs’ favorite aspect of medicine is teaching patients about their illness and empowering them to become active participants in their recovery. He is firmly devoted to ‘patient-centered care’ and the idea that each patient is an individual with a unique way of navigating the medical system and coping with illness.

Dr. Gibbs is married and has two daughters. He is a former collegiate triathlete and now engages in swimming, cycling and running for fitness. He has a soft spot for mid-century furniture design.

Michael Gibbs, M.D.

Charles J. Curatalo, M.D.

Dr. Curatalo is Board Certified in Neurology, Sleep Medicine, and Internal Medicine. He earned his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego. He served as Chief Resident of Neurology and completed a fellowship in Sleep Medicine, Polysomnography and Clinical Neurophysiology at Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard University.

Dr. Curatalo practiced neurology and sleep medicine as part of the Southern California Neurological Medical Group at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles before taking a position as a Physician in the Neurology Department at Sansum Clinic. He is now in private practice in Santa Barbara specializing in adult neurology, clinical neurophysiology and sleep medicine. Dr. Curatalo serves as the Director of Intraoperative Neurophysiology Monitoring for Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

Dr. Curatalo is a former Assistant Clinical Professor of Neurology at Keck-University of Southern California, School of Medicine. Dr. Curatalo served two terms as Chief of Staff at Cottage Rehabilitation Hospital.

Dr. Curatalo majored in Biology and Chemistry at Caltech, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree with Honors. He did three years of neurochemistry research in the laboratory of Professor Michael Raftery at Caltech. While studying medicine at UCSD, Dr. Curatalo completed a summer fellowship in General Surgery at The Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield, England. As a fourth-year medical student, he returned to the UK for a Neurology clerkship at the London Institute of Neurology, Queen Square.
